My favorite season is here, and it’s an excellent opportunity to celebrate with an autumnal capsule wardrobe. I live in a hot country, so autumn arrives a little bit late for us. Even so, having the possibility of wearing a blazer over a t-shirt or taking my trench coat out of storage is a great way to refresh my worn-out summer wardrobe and welcome the colder seasons of the year.
It’s my second seasonal capsule wardrobe after I first tried it last spring. Since I already had a capsule wardrobe in a transitional season, it helped me build my autumn capsule. If you’re wondering what I was wearing during summer, it was mainly activewear and loungewear since I was busy moving to a new house. I guess I’ll have to wait until next year to build a summer capsule wardrobe ๐
Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Finding Inspiration & New Wardrobe Additions
I like to keep an inspiration board for every season in my Pinterest account. Usually, photos I saved from previous seasons remain relevant for the current season. To them, I add new pictures that I have found inspiring. My favorite autumn style is a mix between classic and casual. Sometimes I incorporate edgy pieces into it as well. I love creating a layered look and combining several styles in the same outfit to create a sophisticated and elevated look.
New additions to this capsule are two pairs of tailored trousers. I usually wear jeans, but this season I wanted to add more tailored trousers. I found my black trousers in De Rococo and my navy Massimo Dutti wool trousers on eBay. Another addition to my capsule wardrobe is a vintage knit vest I bought last winter. Also on my wish list is a vintage Levi’s denim jacket in an oversized cut and a darker wash instead of my current denim jacket.
Choosing Items for my Autumn Capsule Wardrobe
I used my spring capsule as a base for this capsule, with slight changes. I switched my brighter pastel jackets and shirts with items in darker shades. Some of the t-shirts have also been replaced with cozy knits for the cold days that are yet to come.
In addition, I took my wardrobe staples and the basics I’ve been wearing every year during autumn/winter out of storage. I kept a neutral color palette with darker shades of brown, olive green, and black.

Items in the Autumn Capsule
Blazers & Jackets
These are my favorite items since they always elevate a casual outfit. I chose to add some warmer pieces for this season, such as my brown wool blazer and a leather biker jacket.
Knitwear
I chose knits with an open neckline and a cardigan. This way, I could layer them over a t-shirt on cooler days. To them, I added my vintage knit vest I found on eBay last winter.
T-Shirts
A T-Shirt is a year-round item for me. For this season, I chose four basic t-shirts in darker shades, long sleeve t-shirt with stripes, and a graphic print t-shirt.
Tops & Blouses
Button-ups are one of my favorite transitional items. Their light fabric allows me to wear them right from the beginning of autumn. I can also layer them in different ways and adjust the sleeve length according to the weather. The current capsule includes two cotton long-sleeved blouses, a denim blouse, and a green blouse with a thicker fabric.
Trousers
Straight, classic cut pairs of jeans are an item I wear daily. Therefore, I incorporated five pairs of jeans in different washes. I also added tailored trousers in neutral shades. This includes my latest wardrobe additions – high-waisted black trousers and navy wool trousers.
Shoes
Based on my spring capsule, I incorporated my Converse and my white pair of sneakers. To them, I added black oxfords and brown croc Chelsea boots.
I did not include loungewear, sportswear, pajamas, or accessories other than shoes in my capsule.
Outfit Combinations
Since the weather has not yet cooled completely, I will wear some of the outfits here later on in autumn and early winter. I created these outfits based on what I wore last year, also using my autumn inspiration board. I am always amazed by the endless variations I can create from just 34 items.
Future Plans
As the weather gets cooler, I will gradually add warmer items to the capsule. I will replace some of the t-shirts with knitwear. Some of the jackets will also be replaced by coats, and I’ll incorporate boots accordingly. I hope the experience of having an autumn capsule will be as successful as my previous experience with my spring capsule. I’ve learned that this process requires skills and takes its time.
As I mentioned in my previous capsule wardrobe post, I’m still learning to create a capsule wardrobe that will answer my needs. Therefore, I’m planning to be flexible with it and make adjustments as needed. I’ve also noticed that I have garments in my closet that aren’t in the capsule but that I sometimes feel like wearing. I’ve decided that since they are part of my closet anyway, I’d better use them. This way, they will allow me to refresh my wardrobe and shop my closet occasionally.
