Capsule Wardrobe For a Weekend in Paris

Post contains adlinks

After two years in which I didn’t travel abroad, we decided to book flight tickets for a short holiday in Europe. The chosen destination was the beautiful city of Paris in autumn. As you already know, I am a big fan of the Parisian style, and there is no better place to experience it than in the city of lights itself, during my favorite time of the year.

Following my 10×10 winter capsule experience and my previous travels abroad, I knew I wanted to build a capsule wardrobe for my six-day trip to Paris. The expected weather was quite cold (about 6-12 ° C) with rain on some days. Therefore, I knew I had to choose warm and comfortable items that would suit long day trips in the city.

How to plan a capsule wardrobe for a six day trip?

When building a small capsule, what works best for me is planning my outfits ahead of time. Therefore, I chose some key items from my wardrobe and started building my outfits. This way, I could figure out which items would best fit the capsule.

In order for an item to be part of the capsule, I wanted to incorporate it in at least two outfits. According to this criterion, I added items to the capsule. I planned my outfits using the Canva app. Other dedicated virtual capsule wardrobe planning apps are Cladwell and Smart Closet.

The items I chose for my Paris capsule wardrobe

Due to the cold autumnal weather, I chose to dress in layers. I packed a few tops to wear under a warm knit and a wool coat. In addition, I made sure to select knitwear whose fabric composition would contain wool or cashmere to keep me warm. It also allowed me sometimes to skip the need for another layer under the knit. Since we planned to go out in the evenings, the items had to be suitable for a night look as well.

Tops

I chose three tops that are part of my wardrobe’s staples –

Knitwear

Bottoms

  • Straight leg jeans in blue wash
  • Wool navy tailored trousers
  • Faux leather black trousers for my evening looks

Coats

  • Camel wool coat
  • Vintage navy wool coat

Shoes & Accessories

I took two bags, one for the day and one for the evening. To them, I added some winter accessories such as scarves, gloves, and hats.

Outfit Combinations

As I mentioned earlier, the outfit combinations were the first thing I created after selecting the items for the capsule. I tried to create versatile outfit combinations to make the most out of my capsule wardrobe. In practice, I was very pleased with the outfits I wore because they met all my criteria and fitted perfectly with the Parisian autumn style I wanted to create. However, since I shopped for some new items on the trip itself, I did not get to wear my white button-up blouse, even though I am sure I would have worn it if I had not chosen to wear the new items I purchased.

In my evening outfits, I mainly focused on creativity with accessories. As you can see, I wore my black faux leather trousers with different knits most evenings.
