Fall 2023 Capsule Wardrobe – 33 Items for a Casual Chic Style

It’s that time of year again. Fall has finally arrived, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Although it might sound funny, I’ve always dreamed of living in a place with four seasons. This year, I get to fulfil my dream and experience fall in all its glory in beautiful London. We’ve just moved here at the end of the summer, and we’ll be staying here for the entire year as I’ll be studying art history and curatorship.

Creating my fall capsule this year has been a bit tricky. The fall weather here is very different from my home country. It’s more like the weather I’m used to during winter. Therefore, this year’s fall capsule combines my fall and winter wardrobes.

Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Finding Inspiration

The three words I chose to describe my fall mood board on Pinterest are ‘warm,’ ‘classic,’ and ‘casual.’ My fall wardrobe is mainly a mix of classic pieces like blazers and button-ups. It also has some casual pieces like jeans and knits. My fall colour palette includes neutral colours with some warm tones of browns. If I wear prints, they’re mostly striped and checked. My love for waistcoats and knitted vests from summer also continues well into fall.

Fall Capsule New Additions

My new wardrobe additions are items I bought last winter or spring. They are, however, new in my fall capsule.

I bought two knits: a round-neck grey knit and a beige knit with a polo neck. I also bought a silk olive green button-up in a thrift store. Last winter, I wanted to add full-length, baggy black jeans to my wardrobe. I finally found the perfect pair only by the end of spring, and I can’t wait to wear them this fall.

Another pair of trousers I bought is a pair of beige corduroy trousers. I purchased them on sale from & Other Stories. I’ve been eyeing them since last winter. That’s why I decided to buy them when I saw the price drop. Lastly, I bought another pair of Converse, this time in beige. I love wearing my other pair so much that I decided to add another in a different colour.

Items in the Fall Capsule

Outerwear & Blazers

This is the first time I have decided to add a wool coat to my fall capsule, and I am sure I’ll need it this season. The only wool coat I brought here is my vintage navy wool coat. It keeps me warm and stylish on cold days.

For warmer days, I chose a light trench coat, a denim jacket, and two blazers. I have my brown leather blazer and my plaid wool blazer. Both are thrifted. For those in-between days, when it’s cold but not for a wool coat, I added my wool plaid shacket.

Knitwear

As for knitwear, I have my beige cardigan. It is a great layering piece I take out every fall/winter. I also chose two knits from my new wardrobe additions and a zip collar brown knit. Another layering piece I love wearing during the cold seasons is a turtleneck knit. I chose four of them for this capsule. Lastly, I’ve added the thrifted knit vest I introduced in my last spring capsule.

T-Shirts

I chose only three T-shirts for this capsule since I don’t think I’ll wear much of them this fall. These include two basic crewneck t-shirts in black and white and a long-sleeved striped one.

Blouses

I went for two button-up shirts that I love wearing in the fall. These are my denim button-up and my silk olive green button-up. I love wearing them on their own, over a turtleneck, or under a knitted vest top.

Jeans & Trousers

As the weather gets cooler, I can finally take my full-length jeans and tailored trousers out of storage. My fall capsule includes four pairs of jeans in blue and black wash. I’ve also added my new beige corduroy trousers. Additionally, I have four pairs of tailored trousers in various neutral colors. Three of them are wool trousers, which I believe will be useful in the British weather.

Shoes

This capsule includes my new beige Converse and a pair of white trainers for casual style. I’ve added a pair of black Oxfords and brown Chelsea boots for an elevated style.

Outfit Combinations

The temperatures have dropped in the past two weeks, so I have already started wearing some of the outfits you see in the graphics. As the weather here is different from what I’m used to, I can explore new outfit variations. This is something I love doing when living in a new place.

Fall capsule outfit inspiration

So far, life in London is very refreshing in terms of style. Inspiration seems to be everywhere. I find it in people on the street, in the tube, in art and architecture, etc. As I experience all the new things around me, my wardrobe keeps me calm. I feel confident with it and don’t think I should make any major additions this season. I hope the capsule I built will keep me warm this season, but I’m also ready to make any adjustments.
