As summer ends in London, I can feel the temperatures gradually dropping and the days getting colder. Although I cannot wait for the foliage to begin, I hope the weather won’t get cold too fast. There is a small time window when I can still wear blazers and jackets before switching to heavy coats, so I try to hold onto this as much as possible.
This is my second autumn in London. Now that I am more experienced, it is easier to put together my fall wardrobe. Looking back at last year’s wardrobe, I chose the right items for London’s autumnal weather. However, this year’s wardrobe looks different. It reflects how my style has changed since we moved here. I sold many of the items I brought, especially my fall and winter clothes. I also expanded my outerwear collection, which is necessary throughout the year.
Fall Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Finding Inspiration
This year, I am inspired by fall trends, as they align perfectly with my style. Therefore, my fall mood board features many suede jackets, denim-on-denim outfit ideas, and various textures I enjoy mixing. I particularly adore the warm colour palette of fall, especially the rich tones of brown. However, to keep the look transitional, I like to incorporate white trousers or a T-shirt.
Fall Capsule New Additions
My latest wardrobe additions include one jacket, three knitted tops and one pair of shoes.
One of my favourite recent purchases is my brown suede jacket. Since suede is a major trend this autumn, I wanted to find a quality jacket without spending too much money. I also firmly believe that you can easily find trends second-hand. That’s why I looked out for a vintage suede jacket in an oversized fit. I found a fantastic men’s suede overshirt in Beyond Retro. They have multiple stores around London, and you can check out their online store here.
I also bought two knitted tops in beige and brown. These tops, made from organic cotton or merino wool, are perfect for transitioning between seasons. The beige top, which I bought in spring, is from Nobody’s Child. The brown top is a new purchase from & Other Stories.
I also bought a pair of suede ballet flats over the summer. I want to wear them as long as the weather permits. These are a very comfortable pair from Massimo Dutti.

Items in the Fall Capsule
One of my Instagram followers has recently asked me about the recommended number of items to include in each category for a seasonal capsule wardrobe. This is very individual and depends on your style, lifestyle, and the local weather. However, my general recommendation is to have two tops for every pair of trousers. In this capsule, I have included the number of items for each category. I hope this breakdown will be helpful.
Six Pieces of Outerwear & Blazers
Since coming to London, I have accumulated a collection of outerwear in different thicknesses. This season, I have selected various jackets, coats, and blazers ranging from a lightweight denim overshirt to a vintage wool-lined trench coat and a thrifted Barbour coat.
Eleven Pieces of Knitwear
In my knitwear capsule collection, I have included two chunky knits for colder days. I enjoy wearing them over a white T-shirt to create a layered outfit. Additionally, I have added two beige and green cardigans and a light olive green one with a crewneck for transitional weather. I also added two beige and brown knitted tops to my wardrobe this year. Lastly, I have included a knitted vest and three turtlenecks in the capsule. I like to wear them under button-ups or cardigans during the colder months.
Four T-Shirts
For this capsule, I selected two basic short-sleeve t-shirts and two long-sleeve t-shirts for layering under knits and cardigans. The selection includes two basic crewneck t-shirts in black and white, as well as long-sleeved striped and white ones.
Two Shirts
I went for two button-up shirts that I love wearing in the fall: my denim button-up and my silk olive green button-up. I love wearing them on their own, over a turtleneck, or under a knit.
Four Pairs of Jeans & Four Pairs of Trousers
During the fall and winter months, I enjoy wearing my darker pairs of jeans. However, if the weather isn’t too gloomy, I also love wearing my white jeans. In my fall capsule wardrobe, I have four pairs of jeans in blue, black, and whitewash, as well as beige corduroy trousers. Additionally, I have three pairs of tailored wool trousers in grey, navy, and camel, which will be useful on colder days.
Four Pairs of Shoes
This capsule contains classic shoes such as my new beige suede ballet flats, black loafers, and brown Chelsea boots. For a more casual look, I have added burgundy Adidas sneakers.
Outfit Combinations
Most of the outfits I created are based on the ones I wore last spring and fall, with some tweaks and the addition of my newest items. I look forward to wearing all these outfits and experimenting with different variations and accessories.
After updating my fall-winter wardrobe last year with more knits and outerwear, I feel that this season, the foundations of my wardrobe are up to date with the weather and my lifestyle. Now, I can finally enjoy my wardrobe and gradually add more “fun” items and accessories.
