Those of you who are long-time followers of this blog already know that summer is my least favorite season for getting dressed. My summer wardrobe has always been less cohesive and included too many styles. As a result, I struggled to build a wardrobe that resonated with my personal style.
Last year I created my first summer capsule wardrobe. Furthermore, I upgraded my wardrobe and created a cohesive summer capsule in a classic minimal style. The process included replacing and adding many items to my wardrobe last summer. In retrospect, I wish I hadn’t done it all at once since it made me feel like a shopaholic. On the positive side, this is the first year I’m pleased with my summer wardrobe. This is also the first summer I don’t really need to shop for new items.
Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Finding Inspiration
This year’s Pinterest summer outfit board has been inspired mainly by Scandinavian chic. I’m mostly drawn to neutral colors, primarily black and beige. I love wearing items in an oversized fit made of breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, and Tencel to cope better with the heat. Instead of wearing prints and colors, I prefer mixing textures. This way, I can add interest to an outfit while keeping it minimal. One of the items you can see repeating on my board is waistcoats, a great alternative to blazers and a big trend this season. I also love wearing skirts in summer, especially midi slip skirts.
Summer Capsule New Additions
After adding multiple items to my summer capsule last year, I’ve added five new items this year. As you can see in the graphics, they all share a common color palette :). I’ve added two linen shirts in white and beige and a beige T-shirt. These are primarily replacements for older items I wanted to change in my wardrobe. I also found this beautiful silk slip skirt second-hand and bought a pair of strappy sandals from TKESS that have been on my wish list since last year.

Items in the Summer Capsule
Blazers & Waistcoats
Summer can be a challenging season for wearing tailored, structured cuts. Trying to overcome it, I’ve incorporated a vintage short-sleeve blazer and beige waistcoat. Both are made of linen and are versatile pieces that elevate a casual look and create a dressier evening look.
T-Shirts
T-shirts are one of my most worn summer wardrobe staples. I love wearing them with a skirt or tailored shorts during summer. Most of my T-shirts have a crew neck and a boxy fit. For this capsule, I chose three basic t-shirts, a striped t-shirt, and a graphic print t-shirt.
Button-Ups
Button-ups function as my main layering piece during summer. I’ve included two basic Oxford button-up shirts I can wear over tank tops – white linen and a striped one. I’ve also added two linen short-sleeve button-ups in black and beige. In addition, I will be wearing my polo-neck shirt from last summer. I love the elegant yet casual vibe it adds to my summer wardrobe.
Tops
I’ve incorporated three basic tank tops in this capsule. Last summer, I also added to my wardrobe a beige crochet top. Thanks to its unique texture, I can wear it to elevate a casual everyday outfit with denim or shorts or for a night out with tailored trousers or a slip skirt.
Trousers
In summer I wear trousers primarily for work. Therefore, I included three pairs of straight-leg denim and two pairs of trousers made of breathable fabrics in this capsule. These include a pair of olive cotton trousers and a pair of vintage linen trousers.
Shorts
Bermuda shorts are one of my favorite summer staples. I usually wear them on days I work from home or on weekends. I love styling them with a tank top or a button-up. They elevate my casual outfits thanks to their classic shape. This capsule includes three pairs of denim shorts, beige linen, and white cotton shorts.
Skirts
Summer is the only time of the year when I wear skirts. I love wearing midi skirts with classic prints or slip skirts. For this capsule, I chose a red floral wrap skirt, a brown polka-dot skirt, and two slip skirts in black and beige.
Dresses
In the past, I used to wear floral or romantic dresses during summer. In the past two years, I’ve been mainly drawn to dresses in minimalist design. Therefore, I chose a sleeveless ribbed midi dress in dark beige for this capsule.
Shoes
I’ve added three pairs of sandals to this capsule – black sandals, Birkenstock slides, and strappy tan sandals.
Outfit Combinations
Many of the outfits in this capsule are inspired by last year’s summer capsule, with the addition of the new items in my summer wardrobe. I’ve been wearing most of them in the past month, and I can’t wait to explore all the possible outfit combinations this capsule can offer.
If you have considered building a summer holiday capsule, here is mine from last year. I hope it will provide you with ideas and inspiration.
After creating a solid foundation for my summer wardrobe last year, planning and building this capsule felt effortless. I am pleased with the result and hope this feeling will remain for the rest of the hot summer months.
Let me know how you feel about your summer wardrobe this year 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful summertime ☀️
